Our Lyon datacenter, FR-LYO-1, is located in the Vaise district within the Equinix LY1 campus. Lyon is France's third-largest economic region and the natural networking crossroads between Paris, Marseille, Geneva, Milan, and Turin. From a topology perspective, FR-LYO-1 fills two specific roles: regional capacity for southeast France, and disaster-recovery pairing for both Paris and Marseille.

Latency from FR-LYO-1 is 4 ms to Paris, 6 ms to Marseille, 8 ms to Geneva, 12 ms to Milan, and 18 ms to Munich. For customers serving the Alpine region or doing cross-border operations into Switzerland or Northern Italy, Lyon is materially better than Paris.

When to deploy in Lyon

You operate in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region — local hosting always wins on latency for local users.
You serve Swiss or Italian customers — better latency than either Paris or Marseille.
You need a third site in your DR plan — Lyon is geographically separated from both Paris (465 km) and Marseille (315 km).
You want lower facility power costs — our Lyon facility uses Rhône hydroelectric power, which translates into both lower carbon footprint and slightly better pricing on dedicated servers.

Dedicated Servers — full range, often with availability when Paris is full

GPU VPS is not currently offered in Lyon. For GPU workloads, choose Paris (all tiers) or Marseille (L4 only).

Sustainability

Our Lyon facility is one of the greenest data centers in France, drawing power primarily from the regional hydroelectric grid (which is ~80% renewable). Combined with free-air cooling that takes advantage of the Rhône valley's climate during cooler months, the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of FR-LYO-1 averages 1.18 — well below the European data center average of 1.55.

For customers tracking carbon emissions in their cloud spend, Lyon represents the lowest-emission option in our portfolio. We publish per-region carbon-per-vCPU-hour figures monthly in our customer dashboard for full transparency.
