FranceVPS was founded in 2008 to provide sovereign French cloud infrastructure. Independently owned, never acquired, never VC-funded. 47 employees, 18,000+ customers.
FranceVPS was founded in 2008 by a small team of French infrastructure engineers who'd had enough of two things: managed hosting that overcharged for under-provisioned hardware, and "European cloud" that turned out to be re-billed AWS regions in Ireland. The bet was simple: build hosting infrastructure that's actually French — owned, operated, and legally domiciled in France — and price it competitively against the international hyperscalers.
Sixteen years later, we're still independent. No VC rounds, no acquisitions, no parent company in Delaware or Singapore quietly billing customers for "premium support" on top of the base rate. Every euro of customer revenue funds either operational costs or capacity expansion. Our balance sheet is published annually and audited by KPMG France.
The independent label gets thrown around loosely in cloud, so let's be specific. FranceVPS SAS is a French company headquartered in Paris, capitalized exclusively by founders and employees. We've turned down acquisition offers in 2014, 2018, and 2022 — most recently from a US-listed cloud provider that wanted our French datacenter footprint as a regulatory hedge. We said no.
Independence matters because it directly affects the customer relationship. We don't have quarterly board meetings where someone asks why egress fees can't be raised by 15%. We don't have a parent-company spreadsheet flagging "underutilized capacity" that needs to be filled by killing free-tier offerings. The product roadmap is set by our engineers and customer support team, not by a corporate strategy office.
FranceVPS employs 47 people as of 2026, across offices in Paris (HQ), Marseille (Mediterranean operations), and Lyon (regional support). The split is roughly 60% engineering and operations, 25% support, 10% sales, 5% administrative. We don't have a marketing department — the website you're reading was written by our founder and engineering lead.
Every customer-facing engineer reads tickets weekly. Every support engineer can SSH into production. There's no L1/L2/L3 escalation pyramid. When you open a ticket, the person who responds can fix the problem.
Sovereignty isn't a feature, it's a foundation. French companies should be able to host French data on French infrastructure under French law without paying a sovereignty tax. We've built our entire business around making this affordable.
Honest pricing. The price you see is the price you pay. No bandwidth overages. No "burst" tiers that bill differently. No surprise-month-end. We've turned down product features specifically because they would have required asterisks in the pricing page.
Engineers, not chatbots. When you contact support, you talk to someone who understands your problem and has the authority to solve it. We measure first-response times and resolution times, not "tickets closed per agent". The metrics that matter are the ones the customer feels.
Long-term operation. We're not optimizing for an exit. Some of our biggest customers have been with us for over a decade. Stability, predictability, and continuity are themselves features — and we charge appropriately to fund them.
If you're considering FranceVPS for a serious workload and want to talk to a human first, our contact page has direct lines to our pre-sales engineering team. For technical questions, our documentation is comprehensive and our engineering blog publishes deep-dives on the work we do.
